Georgian FM comments on Serbian President's statement

Statement by the President of Serbia, about the possibility of recognizing the breakaway regions of Georgia does not give grounds for concern, said the deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Sergi Kapanadze.

Journalist "Ekho Moskvy" radio station's journalist asked the President of Serbia about the issue of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, when Tomislav Nikolic said on situation in Kosovo. According to the President of Serbia, the situation in Abkhazia and Kosovo is different from each other, so you can not use the same principles. He did not rule out consideration of the Parliament of Serbia on the question of recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Kapanadze said that Serbia is a candidate country for EU membership, however, Georgia and Serbia share common aspirations towards integration into the European Union.

"There is no reason to worry, because there is no talk of recognition. Our countries have much in common. From tomorrow on this issue will begin consultations with the Serbian side," - said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
