Iran optimistic about Baghdad talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi is optimistic about the meeting between Iran and the "six power" countries in Baghdad, Mehr news agency reported.

"Speeches show that the opposite side is also optimistic about this meeting. We have always announced our serious participation in these meetings, we showed that we are serious at the meeting held in Istanbul," he said.

Salehi said a policy of pressure and intimidation pursued by some of them has already lost its effectiveness.

The nuclear discussions between Iran and the permanent members of UN Security Council had been held before in Istanbul. During the meeting it was agreed that the next round of the talks will be held in Baghdad on May 23-24.

Western countries suspect Iran of preparing to make nuclear weapons.

Iran says its nuclear activities are aimed at peaceful purposes.

So far, the UN Security Council has adopted four rounds of sanctions on Iran. The U.S and its allies also slapped more tightened sanctions on Iran, including embargoes over Iranian banking system and oil crude purchase.
