The 122nd Ministerial of the Council of Europe will be held in Strasbourg on May 23, which will be attended by Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Nikoloz Vashakidze told journalists.

He said at the ministerial the UK will transfer presidency over the Council of Europe to Albania.

"It is important that by consensus the agenda of the ministerial includes issue "On overcoming the circumstances that prevent human rights protection in conflict-affected regions of Georgia". This will allow the Council of Europe member states to fix their position on this matter," Vashakidze said.

Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
