Syrian issue in focus of group of Syrian people' friends

The Second Conference of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People was held here bringing together representatives from 75 countries. Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov.

Addressing the event, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the international community should take a committed position on the Syrian crisis. According to Erdogan the UN and Arab League offer a clear road map on how to end the crisis.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Syria ignores the international community`s calls after the first conference in Tunisia, taking no step to stop bloodshed. He added that is why the UN and other international organizations should demonstrate decisive a position on the issue.

Speaking at the event chairman of Syrian National Council Burhan Ghalioun, Secretary General of Arab League Nabil Al-Arabi, Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani called on all countries to support a plan of special envoy of the UN and League of Arab States, Kofi Annan. The Third Conference of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People is planned to be held in Paris.
