Russia not wants presence of any conflict in S. Caucasus: PM (UPDATE)

The prime minister made the statement at a news conference after a visit to Turkey, Anadolu news agency reported.

“We can not take any action on behalf of conflicting sides. But we can help them to resolve it,” he said.

Working visit to Turkey by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is at the center of attention in Azerbaijan. He was expected to debate Karabagh conflict with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkish media said the two prime ministers discussed Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict face to face, but the heads of government did not want to broadly speak about this issue at the press conference. However, Vladimir Putin, responding to a question from journalists, once again reiterated his country's position in the settlement of the conflict.

“Once I was very actively involved in this matter. Now, President Dmitry Medvedev has joined the talks and holds periodic meetings with the presidents of two countries and does serious and active work towards resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.”

“There are very serious and positive changes in terms of settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Russia wants a speedy resolution to the conflict. Russia does not wish the presence of any conflict in the Caucasus. Because the existence of conflicts overshadows our relations with countries in the region,” Putin said.
