“The processes inside the Council of Europe weaken the organization. Particularly, the approaches observed towards Azerbaijan and Armenia are not correct.
It has a negative impact on the Council of Europe rather than Azerbaijan”, said Samad Seyidov, Chief Delegate of Azerbaijan to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), APA reports.
The parliamentarian said that PACE damaged its image while trying to cover up the events in Armenia when all over the world knew those events. “I am sure that these processes will come to light. Unfortunately such influential organization, which celebrates its 60 years, commits incorrectness. The Azerbaijani delegation clearly stressed that. I also noted in my speech that the organization, unfortunately, is busy not with protection of the values, but sharing of the posts. The election of the Secretary General could be an example. Unfortunately the election of the Secretary General didn’t take place in June and no one knows when it will take place. I consider that Azerbaijan should continue to show its position in the Council of Europe. The appointment of the rapporteurs on political prisoners in Azerbaijan was a non-objective decision. It is an indication of double standards in that organization. I am sure that the international organizations, including the Council of Europe will express their opinion on that. The double approaches have a negative impact on the activity of the organization”.
Seyidov spoke about the cooperation between Azerbaijan and some international organizations and institutions. “Azerbaijan is in that phase that the organization showing non-objective and double-standard attitude toward it, must think about own fate and position. It weakens the position of not Azerbaijan, but those organizations in the region, which turns into the decisive factor negatively effecting on that organization”.
