Organization of Islamic Conference member states adopt Baku Declaration

The Declaration calls for multi-format relations among the law enforcement agencies of the OIC member states, technical assistance, exchange of experience and cooperation on studies into legislation regarding activities of the law enforcement agencies.

The conference of the heads of the law enforcement agencies of the Organization of the Islamic Conference was held in Baku on April 21-22.

The conference aimed to identify main directions of mutual cooperation among the OIC member states.

Transnational organized crime, international terrorism, extremism, aggressive separatism, trafficking of arms, narcotics, psychotropic drugs and their substitutes, human trafficking, illegal migration, legalization of funds and property obtained through crime, financing of terrorism and cooperation on combating corruption stood on the OIC conference's agenda.

The declaration also envisages mutual law assistance among OIC members, exchange of views to create cooperation mechanisms on extradition and developing respective documents on this issue.

According to the document, the heads of the law enforcement agencies of the Organization of the Islamic Conference will meet twice a year and urgent sessions of the conference will be held by two third of votes in case of need.

The Declaration urges OIC member states to take a joint action against transnational and organized crime and join efforts to fight separatist regimes and groups.

"The OIC is interested in enhancing cooperation with other international organizations in an effort to fight organized crime and to render mutual law assistance," the Declaration said.
