Political scientist: Most directions in Russian-Azerbaijani relations will gain new impulse by results of the visit of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Moscow

In the first years of GUAM existence Russia's attitude towards this organization was cautious, but Moscow's interest to GUAM has declined after it became clear that GUAM is of no serious economic importance, said famous Russian political scientist Zurab Todua speaking of the influence of Azerbaijan's presence in GUAM on the Azerbaijani-Russian relations.

According to him, Russia would certainly be glad if Azerbaijan quits GUAM or this organization disappears at all. There would disappear an artificial tribune by means of which definite politicians are exercising the anti-Russian rhetoric and try to tease it with the so-called perspective but in fact mythical plans without Russia's participation in them.

"Nevertheless, though Azerbaijan is a GUAM member, the relations between Russia and Azerbaijan have been on the peak for almost ten years, cover different spheres of economy, policy, military and culture and have a great potential.

I am sure that most directions in the Russian-Azerbaijani relations will get a new impulse in the result of the visit of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Moscow. It can be said that the Azerbaijani leader has wonderful personal relations with Medvedev and Putin", concluded the political scientist.
