Azerbaijani and Russian FMs discuss wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation

Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia Elmar Mamedyarov and Sergey Lavrov discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in Baku Thursday.
According to Day.Az, at the meeting held by results of a joint press conference the sides voiced satisfaction with the high level of relations between the two countries.

They also discussed interaction of the parties in the framework of international organizations, definition of the legal status of the Caspian Sea, delimitation and demarkation of the Azerbaijani-Russian state border, humanitarian interaction, trade and economic relations, cooperation in the sphere of high technologies and prospects of mutual investment.

"Last year the mutual trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia topped $2 bln", said Mamedyarov.

In turn, his Russian counterpart voiced satisfaction with the rapid growth of mutual trade turnover and confidence that this process will be developing effectively.

"We meet today in the framework of our traditional and intensive bilateral dialogue. The tone and content of this dialogue are set by the presidents in line with the agreement on friendship and strategic partnership, signed in July of the last year", said Lavrov.

The Russian Foreign Minister highly appreciated the cooperation with Azerbaijan in humanitarian sphere.

"We evaluate the interaction with Azerbaijan in humanitarian sphere, we value the attention paid by the country leadership to the Russian language and Russian culture. The affiliate of the Moscow State University has recently opened in Baku with participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. There are plans of mutual opening of the affiliates of high schools of our countries in the near future and there are prospects for other humanitarian projects", noted he.

Lavrov invited Mamedyarov to visit Moscow.
