Azerbaijan National Independence Party creates agitation group on referendum

14 January 2009 [14:25] - TODAY.AZ
The political board of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party decided to create an agitation group "National Independence", said spokesman for the party Ali Orujev.
He said currently due instructions on the formation of the agitation group have been given to the city and regional organizations.

"The formation of the agitation group by the party does not mean that we will distance from the established civil movement "For Karabakh and Republic", in which our political structure is represented.

We support the unification of opposition in the framework of a single group and we will take all actions to reach this goal", noted Orujev.

According to him, the creation of the agitation group does not mean that the party is against the referendum.

"We support introduction of amendments to the Constitution. Yet the matter is which amendments will be introduced. For example, we are concerned with the fact that the restoration of the proportional system of holding elections has not been included on the the list, while elimination of limits on election as a president for more than twice is on the list of amendments", said Orujev.

Notably, a referendum on amendments to the Constitution is planned to be held on March 18.
