Deputy Georgian ambassador to Azerbaijan: "Azerbaijanis, residing in Georgia have a legal right on their lands"

30 December 2008 [14:00] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijanis, residing in Georgia, have a right for their lands, said deputy Georgian ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolos Gogitsidze, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.
"Some of our neighbor countries try to blacken the image of Azerbaijanis, speculating on history. Yet I want to say that regardless of when Turks appeared in the Caucasus, Azerbaijanis have a legal right for their lands, where tens of generations of their ancestors were buried", he told Monday.

He said Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Georgia, via which it transports its hydrocarbon reserves. "Georgia always felt the brother support of Azerbaijan in the most difficult times of its recent history".

He stressed the fraternal relations between the Presidents of the two countries - Mikhail Saakashvili and Ilham Aliyev.

Speaking of emigration of Azerbaijanis from Georgia, he said this primarily affects the interests of the Georgian Republic, as the most productive citizens are leaving the country for economic reasons.
