Umid party against elimination of restrictions on election as president of Azerbaijan for more than twice

18 December 2008 [15:52] - TODAY.AZ
The next session of the Umid Party, functioning in Azerbaijan, was held on Thursday, reports Day.Az with reference to the press service for the party.
As is reported, the session participants considered the recent proposals of the representatives of the ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan about holding a referendum and elimination of restrictions on the election of one and the same person as a president for more than twice. Moreover, the session participants discussed a package of proposals to the Constitution, prepared by the party.

The Umid party disapproves the execution of this idea, as it considers that the provision of the right to one and same person to be elected for more than twice contradicts to the democratic norms. The party considers that the execution of this idea contradicts to the commitments, assumed by Azerbaijan while CE accession.

The Umid party intends to cooperate with all political structures, public organizations, that are against the idea of introduction of amendments to the Constitution.
