The opening of the embassy of Cuba in Azerbaijan was connected with the appearance of signs of intensification of bilateral relations, said Cuban ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary in Azerbaijan Marcelo Cabaliero Torres, commenting in the influence of the embassy opening on the intensification of relations between our countries.
According to him, this event proved the interest in the development of these ties, while the creation of the mechanism of the intergovernmental commission opens new opportunities in this direction, as it is already possible to arrange all projects, fixed between Cuba and Azerbaijan, including in the sphere of energy, education, agriculture, tourism, sports.
"We are waiting for the second session of the Azerbaijani-Cuban intergovernmental commission to sign these documents and move further".
According to him, there is a plan to hold this session in late January of 2009 in Baku.
The ambassador noted that the commodity turnover between the countries is insignificant and if there are some data, this is just a data of the trade economic relations held not directly but via the third countries.
"We want the commodity turnover to be direct after the second session of the intergovernmental commission for us to be able to count real figures", noted Torres.
He said, next year they expect the visit of the Foreign Minister. The ambassador noted that in 2006 Mr.Mamedyarov visited Cuba and their Minister is going to pay a response visit to Baku which is expected to be held next year.
"I have been here for already a year and only four months as an ambassador. I can say that we have much in common, especially hospitality. I would admit that earlier I dreamed of working in Africa, but when I first visited Baku and saw Azerbaijanis' hospitality I like it much. This allowed me to agree to become an ambassador of my country in Azerbaijan", concluded the Cuban ambassador.
