Turkish Foreign Minister: "The current diplomatic activity in the region must be effective"

Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyarov met with Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan, visiting Baku, on December 1.
At the briefing following the meeting, Mamedyarov said that the sides discussed processes ongoing in the region, ways of Karabakh conflict settlement.

"I have again informed my Turkish counterpart about Azerbaijan's position in this issue. We have also discussed the initiative of the Turkish side, the regional stability and security platform", said Mamedyarov.

He said the Ministers also discussed issues of energy projects and the sides stressed importance of continuing cooperation in this sphere.

"We have also discussed the issue of construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railroad and noted that the project implementation will be profitable for all countries, joining this project", said the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister.

In turn, Babacan noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey maintain special relations.

"There are problems in the region, but efforts are taken to settle them. The diplomatic activeness is observed now and it must be effective. We can not leave the current problems of the region to the future generations. At present Azerbaijan and Armenia hold talks, there is a dialogue between Turkey and Armenia and it must have a positive influence on the overall situation", said he.

As for the initiative of the Turkish side, Babacan noted that it is necessary for all countries of the region to sit at the round table.

Commenting on talks on energy projects, Babacan announced that in this sense the meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan was important.
