Asim Mollazade: "I have never cooperated with special services"

- How would you comment on the article, published in Yeni Musavat newspapers, that being a post-graduate student of the Moscow Medical Academy of Sechenov, you were cooperating with German special service - Schtazi?

- The publication of this false information causes my deepest regret for two reasons.

First of all, the Musavat party, whose printed edition is the Yeni Musavat newspaper, thus tries to rival with the Party of Democratic Reforms, chaired by me. It seems that for this party it became an unpleasant surprise that the German government invited me for participation in important international meetings. Unfortunately, the political fight in this case is held by smeary methods, by black PR. Though, these methods have become common for personalities, that are unable to hold discussions in the framework of civil political confrontation and existence of such powers on the political arena frustrates me greatly.

The second reason is connected with the fact that such false publications discredit the whole Azerbaijani journalist, which unites many honest media representatives.

Unfortunately, such behavior is becoming a norm. In particular, the same Yeni Musavat newspaper, spread a lie that we have paid millions of dollars to meet with Suleyman Demirel. The demonstration of the most negative side of local journalism, when a printed body of a party hides behind the name of a journalist to publish lie.

- Can you answer a question to avoid any further speculations from the side of those preferring lie and not normal discussion of political powers, who see in you a strong opponent: have you ever cooperated with any special services?

- No never! On the contrary we were fighting for the national liberation of Azerbaijan. But the people, who prefer to spread lia in the press, controlled by them, have forgotten about it for some reasons. Such actions cause a great damage to the real freedom of speech and process of Azerbaijan's democratization.

- Are you going to bring authors of the article to criminal responsibility?

- The false publication in the Yeni Musavat newspaper give all grounds for the criminal persecution of its authors.

But as is known, I am against arrest of journalists. This is known to those who published this article. It means that this article was aimed to reach my filing a claim to the court against them. It is done to show that a politician, advocating democratic reforms in Azerbaijan has filed a claim against them.

But I will not justify their hopes. I still think it inappropriate to persecute journalists for libel and therefore, I do not intend to file a claim against them.

I think there is no need to strive for their rebuttal of the publication in this newspaper, as they have already proved their level. Everyone in the country has seen it.

I am sure that the most correct thing in this case is to ignore people, who have different views on morality, freedom of speech and methods of political competition.
