Arif Yunusov: "Azerbaijani public is disappointed with the United States, Israel and all western countries"

"Azerbaijani public is disappointed with the United States, Israel and all western countries, thus, burning of US or Israeli flags is perceived quite calmly among the population", said Arif Yunusov. chief of department of conflict science and migration at a conference "European Union and South Caucasus: Safe partnership?".

He said the Azerbaijani public has three trends: prowestern, pro-Russian and pro-Islamic.

"The most serious factor is political Islam. Most Azerbaijanis see power which can return Karabakh. Also Islamists persuade the people that the states will come, pump oil and gas and leave Azerbaijan poor and not needed to anyone.

The helpless feeling against Russia has recently developed, while the United States and the West do not do anything for our country except for declarative statements.

Thus, EU is a last hope of Azerbaijan. It will help settle the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. But Azerbaijan can not move forward without settling this problem", noted Yunusov.
