Araz Alizade: "The United States adhere to their mercantile interests in external policy"

"The statement of assistant US secretary of state Daniel Fried is a good proof of the saying that one shouldn't be a bigger Catholic than the Roman Pope", said co-chairman of the Social-Democratic Party of Azerbaijan Araz Alizade, commenting on the statement of assistant US Secretary of State Daniel Fried that Georgia and Ukraine will need time to join NATO.

He said Azerbaijan must hold an external policy, based only on observation of the national interests of our country not on the US interests, like in done in several countries.

"We have already seen how the extreme closing with the United States ended for Georgia. Many people in our country called on Azerbaijan to tend towards the United States, forgetting about the national interests of our country. It is time to realize that the United States adhere to their mercantile interests in the external policy. Therefore, at the current stage, it is more difficult for them to get Armenia's favor not Azerbaijan's in their geopolitical game.

Then, when the goal is reached, the United States will calmly distance from Armenia and Azerbaijan, like they do now from Ukraine and Georgia", concluded Alizade.
