PACE rapporteurs: "The presidential elections in Azerbaijan met international standards and CE demands"

The PACE monitoring committee is positively assessing results of the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
The press service for the parliament reports with reference to Samed Seidov, chairman of the commission on international relations and interparliamentary ties, that on November 19 the session of the PACE monitoring committee was held in Paris. Among other issues the session participants considered situation in Azerbaijan and results of presidential elections held on October 15.

According to Seidov. during the exchange of views, the members of this committee assessed results of presidential elections as positive. 11 members of the PACE monitoring committee also voiced their opinion about the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

PACE rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andreas Herkel and Eugenia Zhivkova presented a report on presidential elections and noted that the elections met international standards and CE demands and called them to be a significant progress. Members of the monitoring committee Michael Hancock, David Wilshire, Robert Walter (Great Britain), Movlud Chavushoghlu (Turkey, Haggi Keskin, Edward Lingner (Germany), Leonid Slutski (Russia), Matiash Eorshi (Hungary) and Andreas Gross (Switzerland). They also highly evaluated the presidential elections in Azerbaijan.

At the same time, they noted that the report on the results of presidential elections in Azerbaijan, jointly prepared by the Council of Europe, OSCE and European Union, contained some subjective assessments and fixed double standards. According to Seidov, the Azerbaijani delegation considers that the ativity of the PACE observation mission at the presidential elections in Azerbaijan must be carefully analyzed so that to eliminate application of double standards in the said issue. It should be noted that the results of presidential elections in Azerbaijan will also be discussed at the sessions of the permanent committee and PACE bureau to be held in Madrid on November 27.
