Mubariz Gurbanly: "The report of the organization "Reporters without borders" is not objective"

22 October 2008 [14:33] - TODAY.AZ
The report of the organization "Reporters without borders" is false and not objective, said deputy executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party Mubariz Gurbanly, commenting on the recent report of the aforementioned organization, in which Azerbaijan is ranking 150th among 173 countries.

"I have all grounds to say this. Azerbaijan enjoys freedom of press. TV channels are functioning and great number of newspapers are printed, there are also TV channels in the regions. The internet space is not controlled. World web correspondence is not controlled, e-newspapers are functioning freely, internet radio are broadcasting without any problems, situation in the country is discussed by the internet. Therefore, I consider that the organization "Reporters without borders" is not right", said Gurbanly.

At the same time, the representative of the ruling party noted that he has no information about the sources used by this organization while compiling the report. He said it is unclear whether the representatives of this organization had visited Azerbaijan for developing their report or no.

"It is unclear whether this organization referred to its own studies or used the false information of the radical opposition newspapers? If this organization really wants to release an objective report, its representatives must meet the representatives of powers, including the Yeni Azerbaijan Party, and take into account the opinion of our party. Otherwise, the country's public will view this report as not reflecting the real state of affairs.

They are mistaken if they think that someone in Azerbaijan will perceive their report positively. It can be done only by a small group of people, representing only radical opposition, willing to spread provocative news", considers Gurbanly.
