Peter Semneby: "EU believes that elections in Azerbaijan will be free and democratic"

On October 14 EU special envoy on the South Caucasus Peter Semneby met with Mazahir Panakhov, chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Azerbaijan, reports Day.Az with reference to the independent press center.
Panakhov noted, informing the visitor about preparations for elections that all necessary conditions have been created in the country for free and fair conduction of elections in democratic and transparent environment.

The CEC chairman noted that over 1200 international, about 47,000 local observers and more than 100 representatives of foreign mass media will follow the elections in the country.

Among international observers there are representatives of more than 50 different countries, Council of Europe and its parliamentary assembly, OSCE/ODIHR, CIS and its parliamentary assembly, European parliament and other influential international organization.

Semneby, in turn, highly appreciated the process of preparations for elections and noted that EU believes that elections in Azerbaijan will be free and democratic and is interested in it. Several other issues will be discussed at the meeting.
