Mubariz Ahmedoghlu: "Now there are two occupant countries in the Caucasus. These are Armenia and Russia"

04 September 2008 [14:36] - TODAY.AZ
For the first time after the USSR collapse Turkey has just demonstrated extreme activeness of its policy in the South Caucasus, said head of the center for political innovations and technologies Mubariz Ahmedoghlu at a press conference on the political results of August.
Turkey has proposed a positive idea on the Caucasus alliance and demonstrated readiness to take part in the processes, connected not only with the South Caucasus, but also with the entire Caucasus.

"Russia can bear Turkey's presence in the processes ongoing in the South Caucasus, but Turks' participation in the North Caucasus is completely inadmissible for it. Therefore, it will be easy for Russia to block Turkey's idea on the Caucasus alliance", said the political scientist.

He considers that Russia will further state that Caucasus has not three but five republics, implying the separatists of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

"Certainly, Azerbaijan and Georgia will not agree and thus Turkey's idea will not come true. On the whole, an alliance in the Caucasus is impossible, as there are two occupant countries: Armenia, which occupied a part of Azerbaijani lands and Russia, which occupied a part of Georgian lands", said he.
