Expert Mamuka Areshidze: "The Russian-Georgian conflict is partially connected with BTC pipeline"

According to him, it is vitally important for the West to implement the Nabucco project and operate the BTC pipeline. Areshidze considers that the Russian-Georgian conflict is partially connected with this pipeline.

"West is in oil dependence on Russia. But it is impossible to find an alternative for oil. As for gas, Europe reduces use of Russian gas by 26%. For Europe it would be profitable to use the corridors, they have planned to use earlier. Not only BTC pipeline but also idea of Nabucco is implied.

By the way, due to the reanimation of Nabucco idea, there have been a conflict between Russia and Georgia. Search of alternative ways and their protection is a primary task for the West", said Areshidze.
