Fikret Sadikhov: "I do not see the dynamics, which would prove irreversability of recognition of Nagorno Karabakh's independence by the world society"

- How do you assess results of the meeting between Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan Serzh Sarkissyan and Ilham Aliyev?

- First of all, it should be noted that this meeting was held in the framework of energy forum in Saint Petersburg and was not the meeting of Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sarkissyan, organized by the OSCE Minsk group co-chairs.

This meeting was of acquaintance and it would be naive to expect any definite results from it. I think the Armenian President was more interested in the very fact of such a meeting as he felt the tough reaction of the leading international organizations, which condemned bloody events in Yerevan, targeting civilians of Armenia, who protested against the methods, used by those who imposed Serzh Sarkissyan's candidacy as a President of Armenia on them.

Even the most active supporters of the working Armenian authorities admit that these events have worsened the image of Armenia in the world. In order to smooth the impression of the international community of methods, which Serzh Sarkissyan used to become a president of Armenia, he tried to demonstrate his intention to meet the President of Azerbaijan and continue the negotiation process on ways of resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.

Moreover, we should not forget that the continuation of the negotiation process concerns the world forces, which put definite pressure on the parties. In the result, the meeting did take place but in fact it did not yield any results.

- Isn't there a threat that under pressure of the world forces, you have mentioned, Azerbaijan will be imposed unprofitable provisions for resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict?

- I would not state that the interests of world forces in this issue are in direct proportion to the interests of Azerbaijan. Speaking about the pressure from their sides, I imply their intention to bring the positions of the conflict parties closer, as the lower are expectations for the peaceful resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict the higher is the possibility of its forces solution, which is undesirable for the world centers.

- Meanwhile, we often witness that Nagorno Karabakh is fixed as part of Armenia by various foreign companies,different Armenian, western and Russian social and political figures and culture representatives visit occupied territories of Azerbaijan and conclusion of contracts on cooperation between "Nagorno Karabakh Republic" and a city in Russia. Doesn't it imply that time works on recognition of Karabakh's independence?

- I do not think so, as all these visits are unofficial and private and they are held by unimportant figures in the main.

As for fixing of Nagorno Karabakh as part of Armenia by foreign companies in their websites here private initiative, plus lack of knowledge about the realities in the region and our idleness is obvious. But on the whole, it is well known that the status of Nagorno Karabakh will be defined not by these companies but the peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia and leaders of our countries.

Therefore, we should not mind economic contacts of Karabakh separatists with representatives of any Russia village or city. As there is an opinion of states which is as follows: the entire world recognized Nagorno Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan. This means that if since the beginning of this conflict Armenians failed to persuade the world society that it is not, now, when Azerbaijan is politically and economically stronger than Armenia, there are no conditions for excessive pessimism in their said issue. In particular, I do not see the dynamics, which would prove irreversability of recognition of Nagorno Karabakh's independence by the world society.

- Which concessions is Azerbaijan ready to make in the negotiation process considering the current real balance of powers in the region?

- I think Azerbaijan can provide autonomy to Nagorno Karabakh with widest powers but as part of our country. Here, we should realize that this is not Azerbaijan's intention but real assessment of things, made on the basis of the opinion of the world society and all countries, none of which has recognized independence of "Nagorno Karabakh Republic".
