President of Turkmenistan Qurbanqulu Berdimukhammedov met with speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Oqtay Asadov on Monday.

The due information was provided by the press service for the Azerbaijani parliament, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the sides stressed importance of expansion and development of bilateral relations in all spheres and existence of opportunities and potential. They also touched upon the prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on an inter-parliamentary level.

The sides voiced hope that the visits on the highest level will promote strengthening and deepening of bilateral relations between the countries.

By results of talks, the sides signed seven documents, reflecting the development of bilateral relations, says the press secretariat for the President of Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the agreements were signed on cooperation between the trade and industrial chambers, on cooperation between the Ministries of Finance and cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.

Among the signed documents there are intergovernmental agreements on international combined cargo transportations, international motor transportations, cooperation in the sphere of standardization, metrology and accreditation and cooperation in the sphere of youth and sports.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a one-on-one with President of Turkmenistan Qurbanqulu Berdimukhammedov.

The due report was made by AzerTag.

During the meeting the sides specified prospects of development of Azerbaijani-Turkmen relations and role of the meetings of the heads of states for intensification of this process.

They voiced confidence that the current official visit of the Turkmen President to Azerbaijan will promote strengthening of bilateral relations.

The Presidents also discussed international issues and aspects of regional cooperation.

President of Turkmenistan Qurbanqulu Berdimukhammedov arrived for an official visit to Azerbaijan on Monday morning.

According to Novosti-Azerbaijan, the due announcement was made by adviser of Azerbaijani embassy to Turkmenistan Vahdat Sultanzade.

According to the diplomat, the President of Turkmenistan is accompanied by the governmental delegation.

In the framework of the visit, President of Turkmenistan will visit the Honored Alley and Martyrs' Alley in Baku, as well as Heydar Aliyev's Foundation and see the places of interest of the Azerbaijani capital.

The meeting of President of Turkmenistan in the Baku State University, where he will be declared the Honored Doctor is scheduled for May 20.

President of Turkmenistan is to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan on Monday.

The due information was provided by a source from the Turkmenistan embassy to Azerbaijan, according to Novosti-Azerbaijan.

The one-on-one and expanded meetings of the Presidents of the two countries will be held in the framework of the visit. By results of the meeting the Presidents of the two countries will make a joint declaration. They are also expected to sign a number of bilateral agreements to promote development of cooperation.

The President of Turkmenistan is expected to hold a number of other meetings with Azerbaijani officials in Baku.

Berdimukhammedov is also expected to attend the official opening of the Turkmenistan embassy to Azerbaijan.

It should be noted that the Turkmenistan embassy to Azerbaijan was closed in 2001 due to the conflict around belonging of the oil and gas fields in the Caspian shelf and Azerbaijani debt to Turkmenistan and renewed its work in early 2008.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan concluded 33 bilateral documents on the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels through the modern history, which forms the contract legal basis of relations between the two countries.

The commodity turnover between the two countries made over $98 mln in 2007, which does not reflect the potential of bilateral cooperation, the sides consider.

Turkmenistan exports fuel and energy complex, chemical, textile and agricultural production to Azerbaijan. In turn, food, equipment, mechanisms, metal wares and electric wares are supported to Turkmenistan from the neighbor country.
