Arif Hajili: "Azerbaijani opposition has chances to win presidential elections"

17 May 2008 [13:09] - TODAY.AZ
"The main problem of the Azerbaijani opposition is not that it is not supported by the people but that it is not able to struggle for the votes until the end".
The due announcement was made by head of the Central office of the Musavat party Arif Hajili.

He said if democratic elections are held in the country, opposition will gain sufficient votes of protesting electorate.

"I do not doubt that the people will vote for opposition, like in 003 and 2005. Merely, there are some moments which are to be specified while introducing amendments to the Electoral Code.

For example, under the recent changes, the electoral commissions are again controlled by one party.

The opportunities of the candidates to president for conduction of a normal campaign can possibly be restricted. All these moments are important for opposition's victory in the presidential elections, therefore, we treat the recent proposals negatively", he noted.

Asked how many votes might opposition gain during the coming presidential elections, Hajili said the following:

"If presidential elections are held in normal conditions, people will vote for a worthy candidate", he concluded.
