German diplomat: "EU and Germany should not neglect falsification of results of elections in Armenia"

14 March 2008 [12:25] - TODAY.AZ
Bundestag deputy from the German Liberal Party Michael Link called on the federal government to condemn declaration of emergency state in Armenia.

The due announcement was made by Vusal Mamedov, general secretary of Forum of Azerbaijani Students in Europe.

Link said addressing the federal government that the reaction on the events in Armenia should be similar to that in Georgia.

"Following the disputable elections of the President, Armenia is under emergencu state. Arrest of opposition activists have continued for already several weeks. Candidate for President Levon Ter-Petrosyan is in fact under home arrest. Mass medias are subjected to censorship, opposition newspapers are not published. The federal government must protest against such actions of the Armenian government', the appeal says.

Moreover, the deputy noted that the internal political crisis in Armenia threatens with the repeated resumption of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

M.Link stressed that one event should not be separated from another, as beginning with the early 1990s the Karabakh conflict influences international relations and hinders the overall development of the South Caucasus region.

"The fact  that the only candidate, who was ready to strike a peace agreement and make compromises to Azerbaijan, ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan was subjected to pressure by the circles, surrounding Robert Kocharyan, which falsified the results of elections, can not be neglected by the European Union and Germany", the announcement of the deputy to the federal government says.

At the end, the diplomat asked the government on behalf of the party he represents, to spoke for elimination of emergency state in Armenia, release of those arrested by politically motives and investigation of events of March 1, when protesting opposition was dispersed mercilessly.
