Ali Kerimli: "I do not know how to assess the decision of the Supreme Court regarding my claim on the refusal to issue a foreign passport"

15 February 2008 [15:34] - TODAY.AZ
The Supreme Court has partially considered the complaint of Ali Kerimli, chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan.

The plaintiff announced that the decision passed on him can be regarded as a positive step in the sphere of Azerbaijan's judicial system.

"I do not know how to react on the decision of the Supreme Court on my claim. On the one hand, I am happy that my claim has gradually been considered. On the other hand, the adopted decision does not comply with the wish to provide me with a foreign passport, as according to it, I must appeal to the Nasimi district court for the repeated consideration of my claim.

I think the process is protracted on purpose so that to prevent me from further appeal to the European Court. Let's see whether my forecasts will come true, as I am not determined to stop on it and I want to obtain a foreign passport as soon as possible", Kerimli noted,

It should be added that the term of A.Kerimli's foreign passport expired in summer of 2006. However, the law enforcement bodies refused to issue a new foreign passport to him referring to a criminal proceeding launched against him on September 10 of 1994. At that time Ali Kerimli was accused of storing two rocket grenades.

The suit was stopped later. Since that time the leader of the party has obtained a foreign passport twice-in 1996-2001 and in 2001-2006 and was elected to the Milli Medjlis (Parliament).
