Azerbaijan's human rights activists to participate in PACE winter session

Representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Human Rights Organizations of Azerbaijan will take part in the activity of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to be held in Strasbourg January 20-27.

The due information has been provided by human rights activist Saida Gojamanly.

"We will discuss freedom of speech, movement and assembly in Azerbaijan and introduction of amendments to the Election Code of Azerbaijan with the European parliamentarians.

Special attention will be paid to the issue of political prisoners as well as imprisoned reporters. Though 6 reporters have been released in line with the recent decree of pardon, Eynulla Fatullayev, Mirza Sakit, Ganimat Zahid are still in prison", the human rights activist reported.

The human rights activists will hold a number of meetings with chairmen of the CE and PACE, representatives of the Venice Commission, PACE co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andreas Herkel and Yevgeni Jivkova, in the PACE secretariat, with the AGO group, and Commissioner on human rights Thomas Hammerberg.
