Egyptian Ambassador visits Tovuz region

The Ambassador first met with head of Tovuz Executive Office Tofig Zeynalov, APA reports.

"The aim of my visit is to get acquainted with the region. I am satisfied with the level of agriculture and industry in Tovuz. We will do our best to establish close relations with this region," he said.

Head of Executive Office gave information about economic state of the region and said that Egyptian businessmen are interested in investing in the region. Yusef Al-Sharkawi noted that Azerbaijani and Egyptian businessmen will be able to cooperate on different projects.

"Establishing regional center on agriculture in Ganja will lay the foundation of future cooperation," he said.

After the meeting the Ambassador visited Martyrs' Alley, mosque and museums in Tovuz. He also visited the villages of Aghdam and Alibeyli situated on border with Armenia and concerned himself with the situation.

"I knew that the situation in Azerbaijani villages bordering on Armenia is hard, but accepting Ganira Pashayeva's proposal I wanted to see it myself. Egypt always recognized Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We hope that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be solved peacefully," he said.

The village residents spoke about their problems and said that Armenians often fire on the village. They said they can not visit the graves of their relatives because of fire and can not engage in agriculture.

The Ambassador said violation of ceasefire and arsons impede the process of negotiations.

Yusef Al-Sharkawi is the fifth ambassador visiting bordering villages of Tovuz at the invitation of parliamentarian Ganira Pashayeva. Ganira Pashayeva told journalists that the US and Italian ambassadors are also expected to visit the region.
