The next presidential elections in Azerbaijan are to be held on October 15, 2008 according to the legislation, Central Election Commission chief Mazahir Panahov said.

He said that according to the law, the electoral process starts 120 days before the elections. Noting that the electoral process will start four months before October 15, 2008 Panahov said the commission is ready for the process.

Commenting on changing the composition of election commissions Panahov said he does not participate in such debates.

"It is not in the competence of CEC, but of parliament, But as far as I know, the issue is not debated at present," he said.

He said a vacancy in the CEC secretariat is connected with opposition. He said the commission has not been formed completely as opposition parties have not sent their representatives.

"Therefore, we do not want to appoint the other secretary at present. There is nothing to worry concerning it. I consider that the problem has to be solved by presidential elections," he said.

"The parties in minority have to send their representatives. No party prevails over the other," he said. APA
