Azeri, Armenian Foreign Ministers to meet in Europe

02 April 2007 [21:54] - TODAY.AZ
"The situation has not changed after Azerbaijani and Armenian Foreign Ministers met in Geneva, the process of negotiations remains unchanged," said Yuri Merzlyakov, Russian co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, which is mediating in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

The diplomat told the APA that the co-chairs are making arrangements for the next meeting of Elmar Mammadyarov and Vartan Oskanian. Noting that the next meeting was supposed to be held in the framework of the meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council on April 25 in Astana Yuri Merzlyakov underlined that the ministers will possibly meet in one of the European countries.

"It has not been specified whether both ministers will attend the meeting in Astana," he said.

The diplomat said that the co-chairs have not proposed the ministers the variants on place and date of the meeting.

"We are trying to determine place and date of the meeting suitable for both ministers," the co-chair said.

Merzlyakov also took a stance on OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Goran Lennmarker's statement on signing the document on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict after the parliamentary elections in Armenia in May.

He said that he is unaware of what the OSCE official based on while making this statement.

"I will today meet with Goran Lennmarker, who is visiting Moscow, along with the delegation of Swedish parliament. I will try to learn his opinion about this statement," he said.
