Robert Simmons: "NATO concerned over Iran's nuclear program"

16 March 2007 [23:47] - TODAY.AZ
NATO has no military plans on Iran. NATO Secretary-General's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Robert Simmons told journalists while visiting Baku.

Robert Simmons expressed NATO's concern over Iran's nuclear program.

"NATO is concerned about Iran's nuclear ambitions. It is threatening. NATO wants the problem to be settled within UN’s Security Council diplomatically," he underlined.

Robert Simmons does not agree with the claims that Russia's bombing Georgian territory and violation of Azerbaijani airspace by Iranian helicopters are the signs of anxiety by neighboring states towards these states' integration into NATO.

He thinks that integration into NATO is own matter of those interested states and there is no need for other countries to worry. APA
