Turkey's President Ahmed Nejdat Sezer vetoed some appointments in the Foreign Ministry.

The head of the country has not ratified the appointment of five diplomats with ambassador rank nominated by the Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul to Deputy Foreign Minister position.

Former Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Unal Chevikoz is also among the newly appointed. Unal Chevikoz has been appointed deputy Foreign Minister for the Caucasus and Central Asia. The reason why the President took this step is unknown. Despite the presidential veto, the ambassadors are carrying out their new duties.
