13 March 2007 [22:47] - TODAY.AZ
Trial on case of former Health Minister Ali Insanov and ten more defendants accused of embezzlement, abuse of power and bribery continued in the second part of the day at Azerbaijan's Court of Grave Crimes.

The sitting is presided over by Judge Faig Gasimov, APA reports.

Zakir Aliyev gave testimony as the witness in the trial. He said he appealed to health ministry's licensing department in 2005 to get license for opening drug-store.

"I presented necessary documents to Health Ministry and after some months I got license. First I consulted to the persons that got license and met with officer of the ministry Haji Aliyev. I paid 110 000AZM fee to get license. Then I gave $1500 to Haji Aliyev to accelerate the process. I met with Akif Maharramov and got the license," he said.

But the officer of the ministry Haji Aliyev when commenting on the event said he does not recognize the witness.

Witness Amil Allahverdiyev said he gave $1000 as bribe to get license. He said Akif Maharramov asked him to give $1500.

"But after saying that I do not have enough money, we agreed," the witness said.

Then professors of the Medical University Almaz Garagozelova, Mirmammad Mammadov, Neriman Tagiyev and Sahib Musayev gave testimony. They noted that the books edited by Ali Insanov were published twice at the expense of central laboratory department of the ministry, and there was no difference between republished books.

The trial will continue on March 14.
