Issue on Azerbaijan to be discussed in PACE Monitoring Committee

09 January 2007 [11:03] - TODAY.AZ
Issue on Azerbaijan will be extraordinarily discussed in the session of the PACE Monitoring Committee to be held in January.

Azerbaijani Popular Front Party chairman Ali Kerimli told the APA that the main reason is the increase of pressures on press and against political rights in Azerbaijan.

Kerimli said that the PACE leadership planned to hold these discussions in April session, but because of the recent events preliminary discussions on the situation in Azerbaijan will be held earlier.

"Broader discussions will be held in April. We expect that objective assessment will be given to the situation in Azerbaijan. The co-rapporteurs are preparing a thorough report at the moment. Azerbaijan's execution of CE commitments, as well as the situation concerning the elections will be reflected in the report," he said.

The head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told the APA that issue on Azerbaijan will be discussed in the Monitoring Committee, but this discussion is not extraordinary.

"The co-rapporteurs have prepared a report on Azerbaijan and this report will be discussed before the PACE session," he said.
