Garegin II was once again reminded that the patience of the
Armenian authorities is not unlimited, and it is likely that he will soon be
forced to leave Echmiadzin.
This time, the Catholicos received a message from the Deputy
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Rubinyan.
Rubinyan pointed out that just days earlier, evidence had
emerged revealing that the brother of Catholicos Yerzas, who now heads the
Armenian Church in Russia, had worked for the Soviet KGB under the alias
"Karo."
Rubinyan accused both the Catholicos and the opposition of
effectively protecting a former secret service agent. The message was
clear—first, there are no "former" Chekists, and second, the agent is
still active in Moscow, with his brother leading the Armenian Church. This
situation is convenient for the special services but undeniably ambiguous for
Armenia.
"No senior lieutenant can save him," Rubinyan
concluded.
He accompanied his statement with a photo of Yerzas with
Samvel Karapetyan, who is currently in jail and had also relied on Moscow's
support.
Interestingly, Ruben Vardanyan is not in the photo—perhaps
because even he didn’t need any lieutenants.
