Top 5 weird inventions: From sex dolls to gas mask bras

04 March 2010 [11:40] - TODAY.AZ
A touchscreen you can control from your arm might be strange, but here's five of the weirdest ever inventions, including sex dolls with personality, breakfast machines and gas mask bras.
Elena Bodnar of Hinsdale, Illinoi, came up with this novel invention - a bra that can be converted into a pair of gas masks. The wearer simply slips off their underwear and has one cup for themselves, and another for a partner or handy passer-by, leaving them safe from airborne attacks. Let's just hope it isn't a hot day.

The home-made breakfast machine

What every busy worker needs: a machine that will make omelettes, grind coffee, squeeze your morning OJ and serve it all up for you. The only slight downside is that it will take up most of your house, at a cool 3m long by 13m wide, and took 88 days to build, so the time you saved in the morning would probably be offset by the fact you lost your job to build a ridiculous breakfast machine.

Sex robots - with added personality

Roxxxy is a sex doll with a difference - she comes with lifelike synthetic skin, an articulated skeleton and artificial intelligence. She can't cook, clean, or walk, but inventor Douglas Hines claims 'she can do almost anything else, if you know what I mean'. Costing £5,600, Roxxxy doesn't come cheap, meaning this 'woman' is only going to appeal to those guys with very deep pockets.

The husband-hunting bra

Japanese lingerie firm Triumph are legendary for their annual bra that reflects the society of Japan. This year it was the husband-hunting bra, a lovely piece of underwear that counted down the days until its wearer found a life partner. The integrated clock can only be stopped by inserting a ring into a conveniently placed slot on the front of the bra.

The wasabi smoke detector

Where else but Japan again for this bizarre, yet useful, invention - the wasabi smoke detector. Designed to rescue deaf people in the event of a fire, the detector pumps out sythesised odour of Japanese horseradish wasabi. It's pungent smell woke sleeping testers up in under two-and-a-half minutes, though if you've got a cold then just hope someone else wakes up before you.
