They’re living proof a dog really is a man’s best friend.

When toddler Carter Crouch was born, Toby became his protector – and, as the 18-month-old has grown, their relationship has blossomed to one of playtime companions and best buddies.

Now the inseparable pair have become an internet sensation thanks to an Instagram feed which chronicles their adorable adventures. More than 7,000 people follow them on the photo-sharing site.

Carter’s mother Devin, who records their friendship with her husband Jake in Indianapolis, US, said: ‘The bond they share is incredible.’

Even when Mrs Crouch, 26, was expecting Carter, Toby would stay close. ‘He could tell something was going to happen that was going to change his world,’ she said.

She started the account to shed a positive light on rescue dogs like Toby but, as followers increased, made it a photo journal for Carter. ‘It feels great to share special moments with the world,’ she added.
