Azerbaijan offered to include ancient music instrument-tar into list of Intangible Cultural Heritage

The seventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will take place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, from December 3 to 7.
The session will discuss inclusion of nearly 60 nominations into the list.

The session participants will also view the representative list of 36 nominations of immaterial cultural heritage of the humankind. Ecuador, India, Italy and other countries have applied for inclusion of their immaterial heritage of their countries to the list. Azerbaijan offered to include ancient Azerbaijani music instrument-tar into this list.

The right to include the objects into the list of immaterial cultural heritage of UNESCO belongs to the countries that joined the convention adopted by the General Assembly in 2003.
146 countries including Azerbaijan have ratified the Convention.

24 countries are members of the Intergovernmental Committee for Protection of Immaterial Cultural Heritage. Committee members are elected once in four years. Half of them is re-elected once in two years.
