Azerbaijan, UAE sign protocol on intergovernmental commission's third meeting

Azerbaijan and the UAE signed a protocol on the results of the third meeting of an intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and technical cooperation today.

The protocol has been signed by the intergovernmental commission’s co-chairs, Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev from the Azerbaijani side and Economy Minister Saeed Al Mansoori from the United Arab Emirates.

Mustafayev said during the meeting that the foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan and the UAE increased by 10 percent in January-March 2011 compared to the same period of 2010.

He stressed the growth of trade turnover with the UAE hit 36.8 percent in 2010.
"However, we should admit that still there are great opportunities in expanding economic cooperation, and now our main goal is to bring the level of economic cooperation to the level of political," Mustafayev said.

He also noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to the UAE in November 2006, fruitful discussions held between the heads of states and documents signed during the visit has played an important role in the development of relations between the two countries in recent years.
