State Customs Committee head: Azerbaijan and UAE have many areas for cooperation in customs

Azerbaijan and the UAE have many potential openings for customs cooperation, the head of the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev told media.

He said that the main area of mutual interest is in customs evaluation.

"Every year we improve the principle of evaluating goods," he said. "Many goods, imported to Azerbaijan from the UAE, are manufactured in third countries."

Therefore, the statistics on the UAE turnover does not reflect the actual volume of bilateral trade.

"There are cases of smuggling the precious metals," he said. "It has recently become popular to import expensive mobile phones from the UAE. Therefore, we have many common areas for mutual cooperation."

Baku hosts the third meeting of the intergovernmental commission on economic, trade and technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UAE on Tuesday.
