Botas: Agreement on Azerbaijani gas transit via Turkey to be signed soon

19 April 2011 [16:09] - TODAY.AZ
An agreement on the transit of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through Turkey will soon be signed, Botas Strategy and Business Development Manager Levent Ozgul told journalists in Baku today.

"We launched talks on an intergovernmental agreement in April, and will complete them in the second quarter of 2011," Ozgul said.

Ozgul said Botas has already received the right to supply gas to Greece through the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). Earlier, Azerbaijani gas supplied to Turkey and then re-exported to Greece.

"A contract to supply 750 million cubic meters of gas was transferred to SOCAR," he said. "A tripartite agreement is also expected to be signed soon."

Azerbaijan intends to sign an agreement on gas transit via Turkey to Europe, which will open opportunities for the Southern Gas Corridor.

The South Corridor is a priority EU energy project diversifying energy supply routes and sources and increasing EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), White Stream and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).
