18 April 2011 [11:51] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping Company (CASPAR) and the Croatian shipyard Uljanik signed a letter of intent to manufacture new ferries for Azerbaijan, Company Spokesman Vugar Sadikhov said on Monday.

At the signing ceremony, CASPAR Head Aydin Bashirov said the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is expected to be commissioned in the near future; this will greatly increase the cargo flow on the Eurasian transport corridor TRACECA. Expansion of the shipping fleet will allow for transporting increased volumes of cargo," he said.

The shipyard will manufacture ferries for Azerbaijan under the "2 +3" scheme. The construction cost of one vessel will be 22 million euros. The Azerbaijani state budget will allocate funds to purchase the ferries.

The new ferries will be built in line with modern international requirements. They will be ferries of a new and improved design.

These ferries will be able to hold up to 54 cars.
