The European Union and Azerbaijan are currently going through an important stage in the energy sector.
Agreements on political matters were reached during recent visit of President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso to Azerbaijan, said Head of the European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan Rolan Kobia.
“It is not only about Southern Corridor but also about renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation of energy resources. The memorandum of understanding signed in 2006 spans a number of fields. Azerbaijan must bring its energy legislation in line with international standards in order to make its relations with EU closer. Azerbaijan wants to sell its energy resources to Europe. The EU can buy it as a developing market. We place great deal of emphasis on discussions on the direct corridor. Azerbaijan has great potential for using solar and wind energy," Kobia added.
