
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) took part in the European Gas Conference held in Vienna, SOCAR said. Head of SOCAR representation in Austria Gulmirza Javadov delivered a report "Increasing role of oil and gas industry in Azerbaijan: current state and future prospects" at the conference.
The conference agenda included issues of security of gas supply to Europe, new alternative sources of energy and transport potential, Russia's role in providing Europe with gas, the Caspian region in the context of European energy security.
During his address Javadov noted Azerbaijan's increasing role in the context of regional and global energy security, as well as the successes achieved by the republic in this field.
It was also noted that the country's economic interests is primarily important in Azerbaijan's participation in major pipeline projects.
"White Stream", Nabucco, ITGI and TAP project managers noted significance of the "Concept of the Southern Corridor" for European Union and great importance of gas from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in ensuring Europe's energy security.
The conference was held on Jan. 25-28. It was attended by the Austrian Federal Minister for Economy R.Mitterlehner, Former German Foreign Minister J. Fischer, Turkish Deputy Energy Minister S. Cimen, Russian State Duma deputy chairman V. Yazev, Secretary General of the Energy Charter, A. Mernier and others.
