The Black Sea Oil Terminal of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Kulevi (Georgia) has also implemented On-the-job training (OJT) Programme through which employees acquire both general skills that they can transfer from one job to another and specific skills that are unique to a particular job, the terminal reported.
OJT is one of the best training methods because it is planned, organized, and conducted at the employee's worksite. OJT's main purpose and advantage too is providing the trainees with the opportunity to "practice and learn by doing".
The Terminal has got rather experienced coaches who pass their valuable knowledge to employees by verbal and written instruction, demonstration and observation, and hands-on practice and imitation.
The Main objective of company's Operation Department OJT system is to provide a systematic approach in the assessment of qualification level of its employees. OJT training course consists of 5 parts varied by levels of competence, upon completion of which the trainees should be able to demonstrate thorough understanding of operation activities and have enough competence to train and evaluate other employees.
In addition, this type of training system gives an employee the opportunity for career development. For example, 40% of the BST Operation Department employees are involved and already 4 operators through passing the levels of OJT are now Supervisors in different teams. Thus our OJT program is effective and motivation oriented.
In the nearest future BST plans to involve more people and spread the program to other departments as well.
