Hotel prices have declined in the past two years in Azerbaijan, head of
Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Ministry's Tourism Sector Aydin Ismiyev
said at the news conference at the Nineth Azerbaijan International
Travel and Tourism Exhibition.
"Prices in the country's southern region fell by 25-30% in 2009.
In the northern region, namely at the largest regional hotel, Atlant,
one could rest for 50-60 manat per day in 2009," Ismiyev said.
He added that prices are dropping due to increases competition. If in
2003 there were 96 hotels and hotel-type facilities, now their number
has reached 452. Each year, 25-30 hotels
are built in the country.
Ismiyev believes that the increasing number of hotels and hotel-type
facilities in the country helps gradually reduce the cost of services.
Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev signed an order approving the State
Tourism Development Program for 2010-2014 on April 6. The program was
approved to ensure tourism sector development and the transformation of
tourism into a leading sector of the economy.
