A number of research institutes and centers of Azerbaijan presented projects to clean up oil polluted land to the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) on Feb. 18.

SOCAR's Ecology Vice-President Mukhtar Babayev said, the country declared 2010 the year of ecology.
In 2010, the company will continue to implement projects to clean up land, water and air.
Several research institutes and centers submitted proposals and projects to clean up oil-polluted land, and therefore it was decided to hold their presentations.
Pilot plant for cleaning oil-polluted land has been presented by Research Institute of Geo-technological Problems of Oil, Gas And Chemistry (capacity - 100 kg / hr), the Scientific Research Institute of the Azerbaijani Water Problems (15 tons / hour), Special Design Bureau of pilot production of complex processing of mineral raw materials ANAS (600 tons / day), Ltd. EKO Recoveri AZ (10-15 tons / hour).
The Azerbaijan State Oil Academy and the Science and Technology Center "LAZER" also presented their proposals and technology to clean up oil polluted areas.
2010 will be decisive for SOCAR to implement ecological projects, Babayev said earlier.
"Conducting much work in 2010 is related not only to the fact that it is the Year of Ecology in the country. It will also be fundamental work, and will be more enhanced in the next few years," he said.
Babayev said that the company spent about 50 million manats in 2009. In particular, the considerable part of the funds was spent to purchase and to install new equipments.
In connection with the Year of Ecology the company plans to spent funds no less than last year's amount for ecological projects.
