Rovnag Abdullayev, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), hosted a delegation led to Baku by Reza Kasaeizadeh, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company on Jan. 2.
SOCAR said in a statement that Rovnag Abdullayev praised Iran’s importance in provision of natural gas to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for many years.

In his words, natural gas negotiations between the two countries are successfully.

Reza Kasaeizadeh noted that the Iranian government seeks to actively participate in the global gas market and expand cooperation with neighboring states in the gas sphere.

He reminded that the NIGEC and SOCAR have signed a memorandum for natural gas imports from Azerbaijan to supply Iran’s northern regions with gas.

The parties hailed successful negotiations in the framework of the memorandum for short- and long-term purchase and sale of natural gas.

It was also reported that work on agreement for transportation of Azeri gas to Iran on short-term basis is on track of completion.

The two sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
