Russian expert: Azerbaijan's gas contract with Gazprom deprives Nabucco of start-up volume

Igor Tomberg, Professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, head of the Center for Energy and Transport Research at the Russia Academy of Sciences Institute of Oriental Studies says supply of Azerbaijani gas to Russia will harm the Nabucco the project to a certain degree.

“Formally, supply of Azerbaijani gas to southern Russia is not connected with Nabucco. But in the gas world, everything is interconnected. The Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline deprives Nabucco even prospects to receive Turkmen gas. Similarly, the contract between Gazprom and Azerbaijan deprives Nabucco of a significant start-up volume,” professor said.
